I’m currently spending a few days on the edge of Lochalsh on the Western coast of Scotland. Fresh mackerel are plentiful, though small, and I bagged up plenty for a session afloat this evening. The target was Common Skate and after a couple of hours I hooked into a decent fish. It took 30-40 minutes to bring it to bring it up from 100m, though it made a hard dive as it broke the surface causing the leader knot to part as it was ripped back through the rings. A very disappointing moment, though very exciting all the same!!
